Part of my overdrive that was in the transfercase was destroyed. I'm going to send the overdrive off to Herm to be rebuilt but I was going to rebuild the transfercase myself with one of his kits. I see the Novack shaft kit is highly recommended so I will probably go with that.

My question is should I rebuild the T90 as well? I though I saw somewhere that the trans and transfercase shared lube but I cant find where I read it. Do they share the same lube (and the same ground up gear particles as in my case)? If they don't I probably wont rebuild since the PO said it worked fine and $ is tight as usual.

    Thanks,
    -Dean

there is a passage between the t90 and the d18. and yes both should be flushed out and if $ allows disassembled and cleaned/rebuilt, if significant metal is adrift.

Yep, that's right - they do. All the Borg-Warner 3-speeds in Jeeps exchange oil with the transfer case.

If it were mine, I'd take it apart, clean it, inspect it, and add at least a small parts kit and blocking rigs. Maybe bearings too.

Have you driven it? Did it stay in 2nd?

That explains why everytime that I check the transmission is low, and the transfer is overfilled. Is that because I keep standing the jeep on it's tail?

yes, I would atleast flush the T90 out. Taking it apart is simple enough as well.

That explains everything! Thanks! This year when I take the lady friend out wheeling I will back up a embankment until our knees are slammed into the dash. Then she will ask "what was that for" My reply will be, "just re-filling the transmission dear".

I bet that means I have to go wheeling alone after that!
