You couldn't just run the bolts and nuts in the other direction?? So the nuts
are on the inside of the bumper?? Or is there just not enough room between
your bumper and the cross member???

Sorry I just reread your thread. So you couldn't put the nuts on the inside of
    the cross member??

I might put the nuts inside the cross member but looking at it from the right side of the Jeep it looks like this "L " so I don't have anything solid on the Jeep side for the plate to meet with. AND the gas tank/skid plate is right there. The only way to maybe do it would involve dropping the tank. Not fun, esp. since I don't know that it will work. Gas tank skid plate comes up the the rear cross member and seals it off all the way across the back. So it's like stacking two "L"s on top of each other, the one on the bottom is upside down...

Now I got it... I was thinking about not using the rear plate and just some
washers on the back of the cross member. Not using the plate. Or cutting
down the plate to fit in the "L".. Just thinking out loud.....

Oops, I just checked, I have a picture.

The rear cross member is an upside down "L" shape.

You can see where it's welded to the top of the frame here in the lower right:

    Ah! Hmm. I don't know.

For the effort I might just buy a rear bumper like Mike's.
