steel braided lines, drum and disk equal?

    Hello everybody. I'm getting anxious to start working on the Jeep, going to get warm soon. I haven't really looked at them but one Jeep has front drums with the stainless steel braided brake hoses, and one has disk. Are they the same fittings, because I want to swap the drum axle with the disk one.

    the fittings are not the same. the drum fitting projects straight from the end of the line, while the disc fitting projects at a 90* angle from the line in order to clearance the knuckle. you'll need disc lines to go with discs, and drum lines to go with drums.

    the disc fitting isn't exactly as i described, but it works out the same way. the end of the line has a circular fitting, through which a fitting is inserted into the caliper hole. still, the effect is a connection perpendicular to the brake line.

    From what I have seen and used the stainless lines are AN fittings that have to be adapted to the brake anyway. Adapters are really jeep. Try summit racing. Look for "earls fittings" or just "earls"

    In the pic you can see the adapters. The piece that the steel line and the braded line attach too and the rounded looking fitting on the caliper are the adapters.

    i had also assumed you wanted the discs on the front axle, instead of the rear. if you had a rear set-up like the one in the photo, you might be able to use the same line as for a drum set-up. however, up front, using a knuckle with "caliper" anchors, the drum line won't connect to the caliper, as the knuckle gets in the way, that's why the other style fitting is used.

    My front lines are the same, I just didn't have a good picture of the front. The first pic is the adapter to the caliper. The second pic shows the adapter to the steel line. That caliper in the pic of the rear is actually a jeep front caliper and shows the adapter with the copper seal washers. The adapters are available with different bends for clearance issues. I used the same style adapters front and rear (front on one jeep rear on other) just have to get the rise size adapters for the calipers used. If the braided lines don't have AN fittings this information is worthless....

    Alright thanks for the help guys. I'll let you know what happens when I actually take the thing apart, hopefully sometime soon.
