A friend of mine has a powerloc diff and we are tring to figure out what it is.
We found some numbers stamped on it. They are

    1-28 69 A 25244 X theres a casting number-C84046

We think it's from a D30,but we don't know what gear ratio

If anyone knows what diff please help us out and thanks for any and all help.

The 1-28 69 looks like a production date. That would probably make it for a
D27 or a D44. Someone else here will probably be able to tell you what the ratio series is.

as said, the 1 28 69 is the production date. can you take some pics of it? what is the spline count? how many ring gear bolts does it have? what is the distance center to center of 2 adjacent ring gear bolt holes?

if it is a dana 30 as you think, it will have 10 ring gear bolt holes and be 27 spline.

oh, and dana 44's have 10 ring gear bolt holes too, and some had 27 splines too (very rare). but the 44 will have a wider spread between ring gear bolt holes than a 30.

I know it has 27 splines,we put both end of a D30 shaft in it. We placed a D44 ring gear on it,the gear was way to big.

Thanks for the info guys, now I just need to figure out what gear ratio it fits.

If you do't get an answer here regarding the ratio, try contacting Randy's Ring and Pinion. You can get their phone number here:

    http://www.diferentials.com/

Don't waste your time emailing them. Call them. You can also try Herm Tilford at:

http://www.hermtheoverdriveguy.com/ Herm is a very helpful guy. But, you'll probably get an answer here soon.
