X2, I had a Holley 600, ran like a raped ape. but bounce it or on 30' + inclines it would spit and sputter. And I had all of their offroad fixes in place.

During my last rebuild I bought a Truck avenger. anytime the RPM's dropped below 1600 the engine would stumble. It ran great at high speeds, If I ran the baja 1000 that would be my carb.
I sent the carb back to holley with an explaination of my problem. The tech called me directly, we discussed my problem, his final resolve was to offer me any other carb I wanted, that the Truck Avenger would not work on the "smaller" V8's. my Truck avenger is a 750cfm, I believe they now make the avenger in 500 and 600 cfm versions. but after losing $400 on the first carb, I don't feel like trying it again. I run an edelbrock 500, only time it gives me trouble is on angle around 45', everything else is fine.

My carb definitely does not have a spring like you describe. If you find a picture, or part number, please let me know. I'll do some research, and if I can find the part, I'll post the info

THANK YOU! I'm getting so frusterated with my Eddy 1406 carb that I was thinking of biting the bullet and getting the Truck Avenger, but I thought it would be too big (670cfm on a 304), and you have pretty well confirmed that.
FWIW, the smallest Truck Avenger is 670cfm, Street Avenger goes down to 400cfm.
    Cheers:beer:

The Truck Avenger goes to 470 cfm, but I wouldn't run it on a 304. The 670 would work with the right tuning.

I think I may have a picture of the float dampening spring that Tim was referring to. I got some parts off of a 1980 Jeep wagoneer that a had a 360 and I believe a 2150 Motorcraft Carb, but I don't know how to post the pictures on this thread. Please help. Doc

I just bought a 470 truck avenger for my 231 V6. I started a thread about it because of the trouble I had before I even installed it. After I got everything straightened out it runs great. Warloch tuned his for a V6 and posted his jet, power valve and 2nd spring set up. I reposted his in the thread titled 470 Holley. From what I have found out since I bought mine is that the Holley Truck Avenger is only slightly cheaper than going to a TBI using stock parts. That is my plan for my small block MB.

Doc, there's a button called "manage attachments" that you can use to upload your pictures to your post. It will launch a file browser that you can select your picture file from.

Have you considered the dirt track racing trick? use the sponge material they put in Go Kart fuel tanks and cut it so that you can fit this in the float bowl without restricting the movement of the float but taking up as much space in the float bowl, this greatly reduces sloshing and keeps a more consistent float level. It will make a difference on rough trails but vry little during constant inclines, that's whear the float design comes in. Sorry can't help you there.

    I stand corrected!
I know this is a little bit of a hijack, (but it was brought up by someone else.:) ) but why would the 670 be better than the 470? Since the 470 is geared towards the lower cubic inch motors? (i.e., V-6's & small V-8's.)
The link on 'Junkyard Fuel Injection' piqued my intrest, too, since the price would be comparable to a new carb.
What to do, what to do...
BTW, for you Florida people, went to Tampa over Spring Break, and had a great time! Weather was warm (until Friday) much better than rain!
