    Hi,

I just have a quick question.

What is the difference between a Dana 27 and a Dana 27A? I have a 27A front and just below the '27A' model number marking there is a small sheet metal plate screwed in with the number "36" stamped on? Can't see any other markings.

    Just curious,

    Douglas..

the 27a uses u-joints on the axle shaft. the 27 COULD have them, but also uses the 'other' joints.

They all use u-joints in the axle shaft, otherwise they wouldn't be able to turn.

I think you mean the 27A used a Cardan Cross style U-joint, other versions of U-joints appearing in Jeep front axles include Rzeppa and Bendix style.

early international scouts used dana 27 front and rears. a dana 27 is a rear axle. a dana 27a is a front axle.
this is what i was told, i can't say its 100% accurate, but all front 27's i have ever seen are 27a's.
