I have a 75 CJ5 w/ a 232 c.i. 6 cyl. It runs well enough and has low miles but the carb has always been an issue. I had the old 1 bl. carter rebuilt, got a better air filter from K & N and am working on rebuilding an HEI dist. out of a chevy 250 c.i. nova. The carb seems to leak fuel no matter what. The throttle was re-packed with bushings and the carb tests fine on the machine, but not on the Jeep. I just want to replace it with a 2 barrell carb and a
2v intake and instsall it all when I put in the new dist. and re-gap the plugs.
I would really appreciate any advise on intakes and carbs. I am not looking for a performance car or anything, I just want it to be a little more efficient and consistent.

I put an intake and exhaust manifold setup from a 1983 258. The intake is an aluminum 2 bbl on which I've mounted a motorcraft 2100. My engine is a 258, but I think the manifold would be fine for a 232. I'm sure someone will let me know if that's not the case.
From everything I read, the MC 2100 is a great setup for not too much money. I've also installed the Ford TFI ignition. At this time I'm still rebuilding the CJ, so I'll have to wait a while before I can say how it performs for me.

Your carb is a Carter YF, and there was a thread a while back about carb kits and the seal around the accelerator pump arm. I recall that someone wrote that only the kit from 'The Carburetor Shop' contained all the parts needed to seal the float bowl properly. If you search, you may be able to find the thread, or ask on the 'Early CJ-5' sub-forum, since the F134 engines also use the YF.

The 2100 should work well on the 232, but I'd for sure get the 1.08" carb (that's the smallest venturi size for the 2100). There's a fellow on eBay that sells the complete kit ready to bolt on, or you can scrounge a 2100 or 2150 carb at your local junkyard. The manifolds from an '81 or later 258 CJ will modtly bolt on (I had to grind a little on my PS bracket to make them fit).

You can also use the intake manifold from a '77-80 J-truck or Wagoneer; it's a cast-iron 2V type that will bolt to your existing exhaust manifold. If you get the '81-on manifolds, you'll need both the (aluminum) intake and exhaust, and get the throttle brackets too.
