    Hi All

Does anyone have pictures of their original style soft top installed on a jeep? I am looking to see how your windows attach to the side of the jeep.
Here is what I have. The bottom edge of the side window has a rod running through it which clips on two clips that are on the side of the body.
Anyone else have a setup like this? or something different?

    Thanks
    Russ

Jeez Russ, I know I've see photos here from another member that's in New York somewhere, I think it is, that's got a mid-50's CJ5 with an original canvas top on it. In really good shape, IIRC. I remember it because it has the straps on the back flap that go through the footman loops on the tailgate, small windows too I think. I think I've got a photo of it, maybe, but I've collected so many photos it's hard to find a certain one if I don't know what it's called.

Think your talking about my jeep..it's a 1960...the photo's I posted are of the m38a1 roof. I know have my new Beachwood civilian canvas on the original bows. From whats left of the original canvas, it looks like the same set up. The rod is sewn into the bottom of the side panel, it snaps into the clips on the outside of the body. On the inside there are two strap per side that attach to footman loops. The Beachwood canvas is really nice, but it doesn't have the rods on the bottom. I'm going to try to attach them myself. If you'd like some pictures let me know...And, by the way...I always wondered what those little clips were for...until I tried to piece together my bows...

And, by the way...looking at your pictures...my clips are mounted the other way around...they don't look like they've been removed or tampered with.

Yes, pictures of your top would be great! I have been talking with beachwood they are supposed to be giving me a price on adding in the rods to the windows. I am also getting my top in black. Do you have any original info on the top?

I would really love to get a copy of those photos as well Inside and out.. I have a 63 CJ and I would love to install a Beechwood-type canvas top. Do you know where can I get the framework at a reasonable price? Thanks.

Howard, I tried e-mailing that address long ago. No response. Any other suppliers (other than Beechwood $$$$$$)?

I have talked with Mona from New Life Canvas www.newlifecanvas.com and she said she "could" make a top but she does not have the patterns for an early CJ5 top. I have the side curtains and doors if someone has an original main section and end panel then she could make patterns and produce a top.

Ok, I am going to give a go with sewing my own original style canvas top. Does anyone have one on there jeep? I have the side curtains but no rear panel and no main top section, so if any one has one can you please post pictures? and can I ask for some measurements?

    Thanks

I have original side curtains, doors and a complete set of original top bows. I will be trying to make patterns for the missing pieces. I believe the top was a total of 4 pieces. The main section, side curtains and the rear panel. I am going to post some detailed pictures soon. Do you have any info on the top?

I had/have the same style top on my '55. The clips, as you have them, facing down, are corrrect. I think you had asked how the doors mounted?? I will answer any questions that I can, since mine had all of the original bracketry still mounted. I had no bows or top though.
