Oddfire Distributor Cap ?

I've identified my engine as an Oddfire by the casting number (1381623). When I bought it, it had an even-fire rotor in the points type DELCO distributor. It ran, but not so well. I have installed the correct rotor (hook looking one). My question is:

Is the odd-fire points style Delco distributor cap different than an even-fire ?

It runs pretty well now, just wondering if I can get a bit more out of her. I've never seen or heard another odd-fire running, so I'm not sure what one is supposed to sound like. Mine seems to run pretty smooth. Timing is set at 5*. I searched and it seems these will run, but will be under-powered with even-fire distributor parts.

If the (non-HEI) caps are different, can someone post a picture of what it should look like ?
    Thanks !

Unless you bought a marine cap? There aren't even-fire points distributors unless it's a marine engine. Your points distributor is an odd-fire distributor and the cap spacing won't look any different than any other. The spacing is on the cam where the points open and close not in the cap like HEI, and the funny looking rotor.

Dist caps? OH yeah!. even fire caps are evenly spaces inside. the odd fire caps have bridges and whanots to connect the electrodes. on the top, you have 8 points (2 are blocked off and they are in like a v8 type pattern) in which to connect wires and the even fire only has 6 evenly spaced. Very distinct...when you finally see the differences bewteen both, you will be able to tell within 1/2 second glance between even and odd (either top or bottom view). i hope this was the question you were asking (i dont want to make it sound so simple and be off..lol)

That's only on the HEI distributor. The point distributor only has 6 plug holes. The odd firing is done by the rotor and the cam as Sparky said.

    OK,
Just to make this as simple as it can be, for those of us with simple minds...

Points style distributor caps are the same for even AND odd fire engines, right ?

If I understand this, only the HEI caps are different for even/odd?

As I said above unless it's a marine application (highly unlikely) there are NO points style even-fire distributors so it's a non-issue. Even fire V6s all were made after GM made the switch to HEI...

Yes. Odd/even points caps are the same (equally spaced) as Sparky indicated.

HEI caps are different (bridged), as Phalanxx indicated.
