Venting windshield question again

I just ordered my gasket from Pete DeBella. He says there is only one gasket for the CJ5 venting windshield. It is the gasket that goes on the outside portion and seals the inner portion. According to him (and I am not questioning his expertise) the glass on the inner portion is sealed with a caulk of some sort. Those of you that have sealed your split glass how did you do it? Also, is the split glass measurements (and inner frame) the same measurements as the M38A1 split windshield and can you use the gasket for that?

Mine is so deteriorated (around the glass) that I cannot tell if the glass was sealed with a rubber seal or just caulk sealant of some type.

Oops sorry. I thought I wrote it up well. Basically I have a venting windshield with split glass (inner frame) from a 1958 export CJ6. I am wondering what seals the split glass to the inner frame. I already have the outer portion seal enroute. Pictures may help I guess.

 

I got it, but I have a windshield to look at!

Do not know if you were following my other thread, but I think I have found replacement arms and latches for the venting windshield. If you need them try Saturn Surplus. The M35 arms and latches are the same...very cheap. Mine are on the way and I will update when I have them in my hands.

I hope someone can answer this as well.

 

Yes, did find some replacements, but I am not holding my breath until they come in. If those do not work then I will PM ya back. Appreciate the feedback on the different sizes and what the parts book says.

 

Thanks Kevin, I have all the hardware. But I did see the other options you posted.

Looks to me like maybe a butyl/neoprene caulk would set the glass okay, but I'd want an expert opinion on what type is compatible with the plastic in the laminated glass. The glass is definitley smaller than M38A1

Yep, at Debella's. It was 50 bucks.

 

OK is the one for the M38A1 the same as a ECJ5?

 

Nope, however, someone told me that the inner pane assembly is the same on the CJ3B and the CJ5. I cannot confirm this. I would just get the one from Pete. I'll let you know how the rubber looks after all these years from aging. Pete said they were still good quality.

Here ya go. The gasket is a couple pics down. Also, if you need something and you do not see it on his site just call him up. He has loads of stuff not on his website. For example NOS venting CJ5 windshields, etc.

Oh, and FWIW, the gasket I got from him looks like it's brand new manufacture, instead of god-only-knows how old it is. Nice and pliable, no dry rot at all.
