Tellico last fall proved to me that a side mount spare will not cut it on the trail so...
I painted up my old rusted M38 tailgate and robbed a jerry can holder to come up with this.
I will bolt the 30mm can to the inside of the gate to counteract the outside weight and keep my junk more contained on future flopsR)
I also junked the insanely unpredictable 8' steel whip antanna for the radio shack "stick" version.I have the chains on it now but will bolt it shut on the trail.

That's nice. Seems to me I have a spare tailgate around here - might steal your idea, since it would be so easy to swap on or off as required, to any jeep. The side mount is a real hazard in the woods.

I have the same OEM trailer hitch as you show in the photo. Always dragged when crossing ditches - I flipped it over so it the ball-end is raised up, about four inches higher, much better clearance.

    Thanks for the inspiration.

Well Mike some on down and Hunt!
This Jeep spends most of its time on hunts so I needed the stock tailgate to stay useable,it usually lives down so it is easier to get in and out.
We are blessed with the longest Deer season in the Nation,August 15th till January 1st. Thiugh it is a little warm in SC in August!

If your serious, I'll come. I'm not sure if you have any interest in comming to hunt the Black Belt of Alabama, but you could come down here and hunt as well. We have about 2000 acers of family land that has been managed for about 30 years. I can't promise a big buck, but you will see alot of deer. I usually see about 30-40 deer a day when the weather is cold. We have some big bucks, it just comes down to being at the right place at the right time.

    Your on.
Lets set a swap up for next season. You come down for a weekend then I will come see you.
Don't really care about killing the "Big Buck",just nice to sit in someone else's trees for awhile and see how they do things there. I always seem to take some bit of knowlage with me from every hunt and there is always the chance you will see the "Big Boy" nobody else has seen!
Our deer are probably smaller than you are used to,150lb buck, 90 lb does are the common but plenty of them and Hogs to boot.

I like the trailgate and the deer stories. Nice job. We are blessed with a very short gun season here in Illinois. There are a total of 7 days spread over two weekends. Bow season is longer but obviously harder.

Very nice. I have similar plans and I just picked up an extra Jeep stamped tailgate. Not sure which one I will drill the holes in though.
