Does anyone have a picture of a stock 74 clutch linkage setup on the Jeep? I am wondering how much of an angle the bellcrank should be on in relation to the bellhousing. Considering there are 3 shims behind the mount on the bellhousing, I am wondering if my bellcrank is suppose to be parallel with the bellhousing, or actually on a slight angle like mine is. It just seems like it would be a better design if it did run perfectly parallel. And it wouldn't have caused the rubbing and wear that I found on the bellcrank from constantly rubbing from being on an angle.

Mine is on a 90 degree angle to the frame, which makes it parrallel to the attaching point on the front side of the bellhousing.
Mine is a 73 cj, but I'm assuming both cj's are the same.

Yea, Thats kinda what I was looking for. It makes a perfect 90 degree angle? Mine looks like maybe the mount on the frame got moved up a little. I'm gonna take a picture...

Rick and SwampRatt...Thankyou! Looks like I've got some work to do...No wonder why the pedal wasn't returning all the way. I'm surprised it didn't bind more. I never saw one mounted on a jeep, just the famous exploded view diagram...I thought it was suppose to be crooked.

Any suggestions? I'm gonna start by trying to move the mount on the frame back and hope it dosn't cause any issues.

If you move it back on the frame, you might have to modify the linkage from the pedal. On the other hand, if you add more shims to the bell housing mount, you'll have to lengthen the rod to the clutch fork. Maybe you have enough adjustment left in the rod to the fork, to make up the difference in the amount of shims you require to get it parallel. I'm wondering if the mounting holes in the frame were placed in that location for a V8, which would be shorter? I would guess that the frames would be set up for either engine. If it was me I'd keep the outboard end where it is, swing the bracket parallel, re drill the holes as necessary, and then lengthen the rod to the clutch fork.

Yea, I think it being for a V8 is a pretty reasonable explanation. Hopefully I can start tinkering tomorrow. Thanks for your help! I had no idea.
