Repro Data Plates?

    Hello all, I've been doing some digging on my 1953 M38A1 and finally scraped off enough grime to get to the Data plate mounted on the right rear wheel well behind the passenger seat. Lots of paint remover (4 coats of paint) and I got to the original. The serial number matches the data plates on the dash.
    Date of manufacture: 9/53
    serial number: MD 60074

    The data plate has some moderate pitting and I'd like to get a new/repro made for re-installation with my serial number. Does anyone do this? Is it legal. I have my original for proof but don't know where to go from here. Any thoughts? Thanks!
