sealer under windshield hinges?

    i am on to re- assembly on a late cj5.. when i pulled the hinges off they appeared to have some sort of body sealer between the hinge and the body tub.. any ideas on what to use?

    Your local Flaps should carry an autobody sealer. I assume your parts are painted already. You can use a tube product or another one called Strip-Caulk. Basically a putty-like material in strips, peel off and apply. It'll squeeze out of the joint when you tighten your hinges to the body. Scrape off the excess with a plastic scraper. Some say don't use any sealer as it may tend to trap moisture behind there. Your call on that. Remember though, some/most sealers have an adhesive quality to them and it'll be a pain to remove the hinges if you ever want or need to.
