Plumbing new brakes.

    I am in the middle of converting my cj to 4 wheel discs. The question I have is when running the lines to the rear calipers do I need to drop the line to the differential and then run it out to the brakes (as it was done when it had drums),

    or

    can I run them the same as the front, where the hard lines run to the frame above the barkes and then run flexible lines to the calipers.

    1. Why change it?
    2. How will you secure the lines? The factory method secured it to the crossmember then the diff and axle.

    Plus thats one less brake hose you'll have to buy = cheaper ;)

    Just make sure you leave yourself plenty of slack between the cross member and the top of the diff.

    since your going with disc you'll need flex at each caliper. so i don't see a problem, you will just have to weld some tabs to the frame like the ones the front uses. and just make sure you account for all the flex. and position it so it wont grab or pinch during full travel. i recommend stainless braided flex. more resilient, longer lasting, more durable, its smaller in diameter, and looks good. and don't forget a rear proportioning valve. i like adjustable.
