Just wondering what is different between the 2.
I pulled my floor cover today and saw this (see pic) and it just got me wondering.........
The tag on the side identifies it as a T-98A

The little metal tag attached to the top of the trans (in the bottom of the pic) says T-98A on it.
The top of the tranny is stamped T-98.
I assume that little tab means it's a T-98A and perhaps the case is the same and they changed some internal parts.??
I will attach a picture that shows the tag a little better

The tag is right - the most useful number is the Jeep P/N (likely 9xxxxx) which will spec the application. The other number is the Warner Gear P/N I think.

The casting numbers are only useful very broadly, and can be misleading (like the T-18s having a top cover casting number that says "T-98").

The 'A' suffix may or may not mean something. For the Jeep T-18s, an 'A' designates the wide ratio transmission, though some Jeep wide ratio transmissions are called 'T-18'. All the close ratio transmissions are called 'T-18' but a 'T-18' isn't neccessarily close ratio.

Don't know. It's cast into the side of a lot of Jeep T-18s, but it may not be relevant to Jeep applications.

That's the # on my tag and it was originally behind an F4.

BTW I should be hearing from Buckey sometime today regarding my internal drivetrain damage.....very impressed by those guys....thanks again!
