Are there seat belts available for the back seat on a '65 CJ5?

4wd hardware and/or Quadratec sells lap belts that will bolt in the back with grade 5 or better hardware the same as they bolt in the front. Not necessarily made for the back, but they will work the same. One thing to consider about the lap belts, though: Just for fun, sit in the back and pretend to be in a frontal collision. Where does your forehead end up? If you've got low backs up front, the answer is right on the frame of the seat back; a literal head splitter. Unfortunately, the only way I could figure to get 3pt belts in back was to build a cage.

You could always hunt the junkyard; I am using rear lap belts out of an '87 Cherokee.

I got mine from a late 80's Chevy Blazer in the local pick 'n' pull.

don't forget to make a reinforcement (sp) panel out of 1/8" steel plate 2" square (or bigger) on both sides to prevent the belts from pulling through the sheetmetal in case of a wreck/roll over.

JC Whitney has generic "one size fits some" belts.

Jayhawkclint has a point that bothers me too. Even in conventional cars "lap-only" belts were killing a lot of kids; the statistics have finally been revealed. But even in a Jeep, probably your odds are better with than without, IMHO.

I am a big believer in belts generally. And, as we Fire Rescue EMTs say, they save time looking for the bodies....
