rear axles

    well i removed my rear axles today, bearings look good but the end of each axle has a nice scratch in it, not the spline but before the splines, looks like something cut a groove in each one. rearend didn't make any noises. in fact the marks are about 1-2 inches up from the start of the splines. any thoughts, other than me removing the carrier.

    Some axles shafts (not necessarily jeeps) came with a line scribed in them to aid in telling how far the axle has been twisted. If this is what you have it was put on there as a visual reference for wear.
