I am rebuilding a '46 CJ2A. I am putting a Dauntless V6 in it. I want to keep the stock Ross steering setup but the end of the drag link hits the bellhousing - can't make left turn. I know that a saginaw steering conversion will work but I want to keep the stock steering if possible.

I've been wrestling with this problem for a while. Yesterday I was looking at it again. Is there any reason I can not simply take the steering gear arm off, turn it around and reinstall it with the ball facing the opposite direction (toward driver side instead of toward motor)? I would have to modify the drag link
hole position but this would move the motor end of the drag link closer to the driver side frame rail and away from the
bellhousing. It looks like the drag link would still clear the motor mounts. Is this solution too simple to be workable? Am I setting myself up for some unforeseen problems?

I think it would make you turn backwards. turn left and you go right kind of thing.

I don't see that it should change the steering direction. The gear box will still turn the spindle in the same direction which should move the arm in the same direction. The arm will be hooked toward the rear instead of the front but why would this matter?

I don't have any experience with Ross boxes, but I know on a Saginaw box you can't flip the pitman arm because the splines are tapered.
