I need to see if I can get a little help on putting power steering on my 71 CJ5 and keep the original steering column. It has a V-6 with stock exhaust manifolds and glass packs out the side. What should I get and what does it need to be off of. I have heard that you may need to modify the frame and a special steering shaft will have to be made. By the way it does not have a saginaw gear box. Mater is the nick name, you know like Tamater with out the Ta. Thanks for your help.:v6:

I dont know how your jeep steering is set up bell crank or is the steering box mounted on the frame by the bumper?

Also, talk to McRuff, he has the cleanest setup to swap over to Saginaw. IMHO.

I'm in the middle of doing the same thing to my 71. Look in the fabricator's forum. There's a sticky post with all kinds of pics of what you're wanting to do.

And the search feature is your friend. This subject has been covered many, many times on this forum. A little digging should provide most of the info you seek.

Also, do a lot of planning ahead. And most importantly, have fun!

I think it is the Ross, the steering box is back under the engine. I am in the Dallas TX area. Thanks for the welcome.
