While on my quest to find an unobtainable intermediate windshield frame, I stumbled onto a ventilating windshield. It's not cherry but it's pretty decent considering its age. I bought it because I knew what it was and couldn't pass it up. Anyway, I'd still like to find an intermediate frame but I've been dying to find a windshield frame so I can start building my cage. I can't start without knowing the exact height and angle of the frame when installed. I can't do much with the steering conversion because I need to install the column with the pedals. I can't install the pedals without having the seats installed which of course, are going to mount to the cage. This Jeep has sort of turned into one giant Rube Goldberg machine- type project.

I'm just throwing the idea out there for conversation's sake- Do you think the venting windshield would be a good "template" for where my tubing needs to go? I have plans to swap the venting 'shield for an intermediate model because I'm fairly tall.... though once it's installed it might be too cool to get rid of.

I know the glass will sit higer in the later frame but the height and installed angle is the same, right?

Then again, since the seats will be mounted to the cage, would it be feasible to just lower them in relation to the windshield?

    Thanks!!!

The windshield frame height and angle and width are the same so no worries there. The angle can be influenced by condition of the cowl seal between the frame and the cowl. If in bad shape or have "crushed" over the years it will allow the frame to angle back more than one with a good seal. I have had all three types sitting next to each other and outside dimensions are all the same. The only ones to worry about are the '76 and newer. Nickmil

On mine, I bent the cage slightly and changed the WS hold downs to make the WS stand up slightly more. It seems to work pretty good, but it is close to the cage. The front hoop on my kit was supposed to be for a later CJ7, but I still needed to adjust it slightly. The top of the WS is about 1/4" from the top tube. How far is Lisle from the WI border, I am in Burlington? You are welcome to come look and measure if you want.

    Hi Hansh,
Thanks for the input! I am going to bend the cage from scratch. I guess that means things will probably turn out really well or really crappy! :D I think Burlington is right near Kenosha, right? I'm a little over an hour away from Kenosha.
I'm on vacation for 2 weeks starting tomorrow so maybe I can plan a day to hit the Brat Stop for lunch and meet up with you and Anders...
