I drained and refilled the gear oil in the trans and t-case.
I have a pretty aggressive leak where the cover plate for the PTO is.
It looks like the po had it off before because there is clear silicone oozing out from the edges.
I found the gasket on Walck's site but was wondering if I could get away with using a good gasket maker/sealent.
Am I way off here or would it be OK?

You can just use RTV (silicone). Make sure the surfaces are CLEAN. Chemically clean. Without using a paper gasket, I'd lay a nice bead, assemble, but don't comepletely tighten the bolts. Let it sit overnight, then tighten the bolts and go...YMMV

I just bought gasket material from NAPA. The package comes in
several widths and thinnesses. Just trace the cover on a sheet of
    it and cut it out.

    both suggestions above good....
I'd buy the complete gasket and seal kit
you'll probably end up using them all anyway..
