My Jeep needs a new e-brake cable. The one that is on there is frayed and doesn't seem to do anything........I'm not even sure if it is connected to the lever/pull handle.
The Jeep's in getting the brakes overhauled and the mechanic brought it up, pointing out that I should probably have an operable e-brake due to the single cylinder master.

Question is,,,,with the engine swap from the original 4 cyl to the V-6 does it change anything with the cable? It wouldn't appear to, but I thought I'd ask before sending away for one.

    Part # 906750, 63 5/8" ?

And where is it supposed to run? Mine has been wire-tied to the frame rail with a very sharp bend in it just before lining up with the arm. It binds up, so that can't be the right way for it to go. I kinda think closer to the block and transmission would be closer to right.

I know the e-brake cable doesn't work on mine, and someone wrapped the cable around the exhaust pipe, rubbing a hole in it. Best of luck finding a route, and tell us how it goes.

What changes with the motor swap?
The cable comes through the firewall below the heater doesn't it?

Cable leaves the firewall just below the heater. Mine appeared to have a stock cable when I got it that had a metal friction clip that fit into a matching hole on the driver's fender. You can see the clip in the second pic. I recommend not running the cable through the headers as my jeep's PO did as it fried the cable. After that, it runs between the oil pan/bell/trans and driver's side frame rail, then connects to the back of the transfer case. There is a spring loaded linkage that holds the cable in place on the chassis near the back of the transfer case. Trying to find a pic.

So now I know it should work. I couldn't see any reason that something that is cable operated would have to be abandoned.

Got insurance on the Jeep today........$75.00 for 6 monthsR)
They said I would need to get an inspection on the vehicle and I suspect DMV will want a brake and lamp inspection.
I'm pretty sure they will want a parking brake that is operable.

    Thanks for the pics!

BTW, I got the Jeep back from the shop today. It stops now!
All the lights work right and he even found a very cool light for my missing license plate light! Runs amazingly well for sitting for 25 years and I haven't rebuilt the carb yet.
I do have to get used to shifting again..........did some grinding:oops:

Get down there and check all your clutch linkage. It is a really simple cable operated setup. The hardware on mine was wore out to the point that the clutch would not fully disengage even when the pedal was hitting the floor. I tried to adjust my shifting style for months until it gradually got to the point one day where I could not get into 1st! A $2 visit to the hardware store fixed it all, and the clutch shifted great. It's worth a look.

    Clint,

Does your brake pedal flex at all with that jog over to get around the steering column?

Nope. The brake pedal has zero flex. Notice how I gusseted the extension. Boyink has a similar setup.

The master cylinder had minor flex, and I'm being very critical when I say minor, but that was due to the plate you see pictured. I have fixed that with the resto I'm currently doing right now.

There's a write-up around here somewhere; do a search for "Cherokee brake booster" or something of that nature. You can also check out Boyink's blog page.
