Strength and Stability

I just installed my Black Diamond 3" suspension and I've found a good deal on the SS TSL 9/34 16 tires for my oem 16" rims. I have two concerns about this setup:
    1. My CJ is strictly an off road rig and I'm a little concerned about how stable this setup will be on uneven and off camber terrain? It just seems like it may be a little tipsy.
    2. Will my d27 be up for the task of handeling the 34s?

    thanks

    #1 - less so than you'd think. I wouldn't worry about it.

#2 - Depends entirely on your right foot. But why worry about it if/until you break something?

:iagree: You should be fine stability wise, and I know you have heard the saying "If it aint broke, don't fix it". If you start breaking axles every time you go out, you will know then that it's time for an upgrade.

    1. These rigs are not as wide as later Jeeps or nealy any other rig save for the zuk's. Tip over is a concern - especially with the lift and taller tires - and the hardtop. I know I've been up on two wheels and it's not a fun feeling. What to do? Go with a wider tire, or get new rims with less (?) offset, or try wheel spacers. My dana 30 is about an inch wider than the old 27 so that's another idea. The most important item in the tip over equation is the driver.
    2. I think the d27 will take a tire that tall and narrow but with 5.38's you need to think before mashing the skinny pedal. The driver is the key link in this equation also. A d30 is easier to find parts for if breakage is a problem - and is slightly stronger.

Thanks guys. I'm going to go for it. Once I get the tires on I'll clean him up and post some pics.
My philosophy has always been ...if I beak it I'll replace it with something better.

Only issue I might see is turning radius.

Thanks for the input guys. Heres my cj6 stock and with the 3" Black Diamond and 34x9 16 TSLs. My turning radius has decreased but I still made some sharp turns on the trail without reversing, and there is some rubbing under heavy flex. I may add some spacers later but I'll make some more trail runs before I decide. Overall I'm happy with the lift, tires, and look and the fact that I kept the OE wheels.

Hey, and the best part about it is that you get to help your friends out when they are wheeling with you. "HEY,LOOK, HE DIDN'T ROLL IN THAT CJ-5, SO WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE THAT OBSTACLE EASILY!"

 Thats funny man. I'll probobly add spacers plus I try not to push my limits too often. It does look a bit tippy though esp with the hardtop. They made less than 150 of these CJ6a's so it would realy suck to roll it. I dont plan on taking on an obstackles unless I'm 99% confident.

That's one dang sweet cj6 you have there zia tux!

Another option in the future for track width is putting some wider axles under your rig. I put a set of Cj7 widetrack axles on my 5. picked up track width, still could run a skinny(er) tire, got mad turning radius, and as a bonus... disc brakes! Cost to do the swap was actually less than doing a disc conversion on my old D27. You just have to find a working set with the gear ratio you're after. If you start swaping out gears, etc. then your cost will go up.

Looks great, should perform very well. You might be surprised at the increase in stability "feel" when you remove the steel top. Taking that weight off makes a world of difference!

    Yup, lower center of gravity.

My eyes ain't the best, but is there a winch behind the fairlead? don't see a cable hook sticking out.
