I was getting ready to have my drums turned and saw that one hub is split. That explains why the gap between the nut and hub was there. The hub has working onto the axle.
So I need a new hub, anybody know a good source? I just tried to call Turner but they are closed today.

Turner carries 'em. I bought mine there.

Thanks, I just talked to Herm and he said the early hub (smaller key) is hard to find but he had a later 44 hub and it is on its way to me. I ordered my shims and seals from Turner last week. I have had really good service and help in the past from both of these sources: Hermtheoverdriveguy.yahoo and Turner. It didn't look like Turner had them and I couldn't call cause they are only open Mon-Thurs.
    Thanks again,

From what Herm said the same hub won't work on both 41's and 44's. He said they used to recut the keyway in the early axles to 1/4 and put on the later hubs because the early 1/8 keys would shear. So maybe that is why they list one hub for 41's and 44's.
