We are running a holley small 2 barrel on dad's 82 w/258. The carb was off of a dodge truck. The biggest problem w/ the carter is the throttle shaft getting warn and letting in air at idle. They also put bbd's on late 70's dodge trucks and you may be able to find a decent one.

I think I would start with a good tune-up; if you haven't done so already. All ignition and timing first. Disassemble, clean and adjust carb second. Make sure you know what your problems are before upgrading. I think it is always best to upgrade a good running engine.

For Iowa: If you go to Ebay and search for Motorcraft 2100, you will be given a listing for someone that sells complete conversion kits for either a single or two barrel manifold.:coffee:
Yes HEI is GM electronic ignition.

Yes, you'll need an adapter to go from the Rochester pattern to the Holley 2V pattern.

I have a AMC 304 with Edlebrock Carb, and my jeep starts right up. Ofcourse cold here in AZ is like 40s, but I also have the eletronic choke and electronic fuel pump. Not sure if this is helpful or not. Kevin
