D27 gears in a D30

    Can they be used in one another?? From searching it seems they are the same size..so will they interchange?

    I dont' think so either - I have 4.88s for both in the shop and will look this weekend if possible.

    Hey, if you have 4.88's for a 27.......
    I have a D44 Powrlok 4.88, I just need fronts...

    I looked when I had my dana 30 apart, I won't swear to it but I think that the inside diameter of the ring gear was slightly different, I couldn't get the 27 ring gear on the dana 30 carrier.

    Was it off ALOT or would the heating one up and freezing the other trick work??

    Can you put the ring & carrier together with some back light, and take a picture of the misaligned holes? Thanks!

    Won't fit,
    Ring gear diameter is wrong, I "believe" the bolt holes don't line up but could be wrong, thickness of gear is wrong, pinion won't fit properly in the housing. Dimensionally they are all wrong. Remember, we're dealing with thousandths and ten thousandths of an inch of clearances and preloads here. I'd suggest getting the right parts for the job. Nickmil
