Does anyone know of an aftermarket (higher flow, preferably) oil pump for the L134? I'm pretty sure I need an oil pump, but am curious what my options are for a replacement...

NAPA online list them for $98.49. Doesn't spec them as hi-flow though. Could get that locally to save shipping $$ although I didn't find any with a quick look .NAPA # COP6011069

Mmm... in most streetable engines, the original oil pump is fine if the bearings aren't worn out. Why do you think you need an oil pump?

Thanks for the info Sidscj. Also, I see you live in VT, so hello from another Vermonter.

Timgr, thanks for the reply. I'm sure that the original pump would do just fine, but I was just curious what my options are. I'd consider an upgrade if it was available, just because I feel it couldn't hurt.

The reason I am thinking about changing my pump is that I recently have been seeing oil pressure problems. I have good oil pressure at start up, and usually good pressure all the time...however, about a week ago I started randomly loosing oil pressure. I'll be driving along with good oil pressure and then it just drops out to nothing. It always comes back, but I usually have to make a change in rpms...and no it's not just the gage because I can hear the lack of oil pressure, and it's nice and smoother before the pressure drops out.

Assuming you have enough oil, I wonder if your pickup screen isn't partially clogged. It's kinda weird that the oil pressure drop is intermittent, I can't imagine an oil pump doing that.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I should check the pickup screen...if I find that's not the issue, then I think the pressure relief valve sticking sounds like a possibility as well.

If your screen is junk I have a spare off an F-head you can have. I'd have to check on the pump if you find you need parts for it.

Thanks a lot for the offer, SIDSCJ. I really appreciate it. I'll give it a look and see what I find, and then go from there.

Also, if you are ever in need of Jeep parts feel free to drop me a note. I have 3 other friends here in Randolph who have a nice collection of 5s...and we are always up for swapping parts, or giving parts to friends who needs 'em. I think New Haven is probably only about an hour and change from Randolph too.

IMO I would steer clear of high flow oil pumps, they have been known to empty the oil pan before the oil can cycle back down. I would think they are good for a high RPM racecar, but for a low RPM Jeep they are not needed.

Also hiflow oilpumps drain more power. yeh it is like 1-2 HP but in an L-head 1-2 HP is important.

A high flow oil pump probably wouldn't drain more than 1/2 hp over an existing stock pump.

The high flow oil pump draining an oil pan is pretty much an old wives tale.;)
Oil is picked up in the pump and forced back into the pan thru the pumping action. A certain percentage is drained back but most is forced back.
