Gas Tank Leak

    navy67 It's a Jeep thing!

    OK,

I found out that the PO installed a new rear gas tank and the filler neck was sitting on the frame. So what happend is the weld broke where the neck and the tank meet. My question is there a sealent that I can put on the weld?

You can try. There are products at your FLAPS that are for such things.

Unfortunately I think I'd just replace it. :(

If you can clean it well and reach it for a repair--

I would mix about three tubes (6 total) of J-B weld and seal the leak.

Next I would overcoat with fiberglass and resin.

Always remember you can NEVER weld or braze on a gas tank that ever had gas in it. It will blow-up even if it has set empty for years.

I would disagree with Steve, what Tumbleweed said.

I'd still likely replace it. JMO. Then again, there aren't many radiator repair shops local here. :(

I agree it can definitely be fixed, depending on whether the overall condition warrants it. I'm kinda thinking Steve meant an individual shouldn't just weld on a tank even if it's been sitting empty. Shops know what to do to eliminate the danger. ;)

    Strider380 Can I have a zip tie?

Every gas tank repair I have ever seen has been done with solder.

If you fill a gas tank with water , it can be welded or brazed. Done it more times than I care to remember.
