I have finally gotten my '62 CJ-5 to the point that I am thinking about "body parts" (kind of nice not to be laying underneath it for a change). I do not understand what hardware was originally supplied to allow the windshield to be laid down on the hood (safely and securely). I think I have seen pictures showing some u-shaped standoffs on the top of the winshield frame, over the wiper shafts (mine has replacement electric wipers made by American Bosch). Was that true in '62 and were they put there as "rests"? If so, where can I get a set of these? My hood has two pairs of holes on the centerline - one set about a third of the way from the back and the other set about a third of the way from the front. I am guessing one pair had something to tie the hood down but what was the the other pair for? Also was there anything to prevent the hood from banging the windshield frame when opened all the way and laid back against the frame? Sorry for the long post and all the questions. I have attached a photo of my windshield - there are lots of holes on either side of the wiper.

Here's a couple of photos of my old original '56 windshield. There's two standoff brackets with canvas welting on them, those are "bumpers" to separate the hood and windshield from each other. Those are available from Beachwood Canvas, and probably Walck's 4WD, among others I'm sure, like Krages and 4WD Hardware.

There's also a latch visible in the center, that was a "catch" to hold the hood up to the windshield, there's a loop on the hood to match that latch. There's also a footman loop on the hood, for tying the windshield down with a canvas strap so it doesn't bounce around.

I use a TJ hood bumper on my CJ hood to prop the hood against the windshield when open.
Obviously not something you want to do if you're shooting for originality... but functionally it works great!!

When the wiper motor was moved to the bottom, there are two stand-offs on the hood, with at larger loop centered on the hood for tieing off the windshield with a strap.
