I have heard of gas heaters (by Montgomery Wards) before. Is that the one you mean? They are pretty bulky. No info other than that.

I have a Wards JEEP catalog from '62. Lists a heater but gives NO details. Pretty funky looking unit. Part numbers offered for Ford or Willys as follows: Ford # is GPW 700000, Willys # is A400011. That's all I got.

That a/c swamp coooler would be great if I ever make it back to the New Mexico desert. Wonder how you would go about installing it on a bikini top :) :)

This toad was in my Jeep when Dad bought it. All's I know about it is it says "Wards Premium" somewhere on it in tiny letters. I'm keeping it because it's restorable and has a high funkiness factor. Just needs a motor and cleanup. Stashed away in a box right now.....

It's a strange design....the outer fan blows air outward through the core to push heat into the cabin, but the "squirrel-cage" center fan pulls air through the center of the core the other direction, for the defroster outlet. That ring soldered on the fins meets with a groove around the center of the fan asssembly, to act as a seal, or dam, between the heat and defrost fans.

I guess the "defroster outlet" could also be a duct for blowing air over to the other side of the vehicle, who knows.

    Weird.

It is amazing how many different universal heaters there were for this era of time.

Early Bronco heater boxes are an excellent "aftermarket" upgrade for Jeeps. Look much like a 72-75 box and mount the same way. They are a snap to install as well. I've run one in my CJ for almost twenty years and have been very happy with it.
