Recessed Taillights?

I was just curious if my taillights are an alteration by the PO, or if some actually came from the factory this way?




It seems all the original taillights I've seen are not recessed, but thought I'd ask.

Yep they are after market lights,my dad put the same lights in his jeep now mine. I bet if you under the body where the frame mount is you will find out that the rear tub to frame mount brackets are cut to for the instalation. At least mine were because of the low position thay were mounted. I will more than likly go back with something simular bit stainles steel housing instead of painted because of the location or build a box to keep the back of it from the road grime and elements.
