I teach ag-ed(agriculture and shop) here in Northeast, CO. I just recently had a student want to build an engine stand that was pretty cool I thought. It was WAY overkill, but I think would be great for a "whirlyjig." He used an irrigation sprinkler gear box for the rotating head. You could flip a 425 Cat engine out of a semi with the flick of the finger. Would work great here as well I think.

I wish I had a Fabricators talent! I would have a cool stand for my jeep tub. Oh well I guess I can settle with the Mickey Mouse approach to things until it kills me... or worse! R)

Skills? What skills?? We don't need no stink'n Skills!

In the words of the Immortal Dr. Vern-

    "I'm not a machinist, I'm a guy with a lathe"

In the words of the Immortal Me-

    "I'm not a welder, I'm a guy with a weldor"

The photos don't show it well but the welds (where I had to resort to using them) came out pretty *#%&! ugly. A real machinist ( Hi Mike!:) ) is going to groan mightly at what I did on the lathe ( Please stop laughing now Mike:cry: ).

You want a stand? Give it a shot, it may not be pretty when you're done but the more you do the better you get. If nothing else its a great excuse to buy a welder :).
