I think my water pump is going out. Every time I start it up something screaches for about 30 sec. and then goes away...then the engine smooths out...whats up.:?

Take the belts off one by one till it goes away. This will isolate the problem.

How can I tell if the water pump is working? Can you see the coolant move inside the radiator?

You said the engine smmoths out after the sceaching stops. Does it seem like something is binding? Could be the alternator bearing or the water pump. With the belt off and the engine stopped both should turn easily with no binding. You should be able to see water circulating through the filler neck with the cap off.

Water has to be up to temp right, before the thermostat opens to see the coolant flow? I will check it and the alternator when I get back from school.

It sounds like this "eeeeeeeech...eeeech....eeeech!"R) R)

I'll put my ear on it and listen for the noise while its runningR)

Either way, take the belt off and spin the water pump and alternator by hand to see if either one of them doesn't spin freely. You may just need a new belt.

x2 Sounds like the belt's too loose or its glazed over on the drive surface. A bad bearing noise typically won't "go away". If it does it usually means the part failed.

Ditto what was said already. Take the belt off and inspect for glazing. Also, check to see if you have too much slop when your belt is connected. It may be too loose. When the belt is off check for slop on your water pump pulley as well as your alternator.

The 225 has a bypass hose so you should see coolant flowing even with the engine cold.

Replace pump if leaking. The bearing sometimes makes sounds shortly before pump failure.
