New to Forum, but not new to Jeeps. Wonderful to find a focused forum with many knowledgeable folks. Former owner of 1972 Commando & 1985 Grand Wagoneer. Now trying to rescue 1974 CJ5 with 258/1V, 3-spd. I am trying to locate a source for the "Molded Hose" that provides the fresh air supply for the PCV system and runs from side of the air cleaner assembly to the valve cover hole located right behind the oil fill cap. Or, a work-around that will allow me to have a functioning PCV without having to buy a new valve cover. Several searches came up empty for this item. Thanks in advance.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

it would seem the most likely fix would be to adapt male fittings on both ends, valve cover and air cleaner, to where bulk hose could then be used. On the air cleaner end, several later types used a small filter with male end protruding thru the air cleaner, and held in place with a large clip; some modifying of the hole might be necc for this to work, as most of these holes are u-shaped.
For the valve cover, a grommet would be needed that would then accept a male hose fitting for the hose to be connected to.
Of course, if you're going for restoration, then you may not want to persue this type of fix.
The Jeep part number for the hose is: J3190565
    don't know about its availability
having the two formed grommets on the end might make finding a suitable replacement difficult, especially if they are different diameters.

Jim, thank you for the part number. I googled Jeep plus that number and came up with Crown as a source (the only supplier that came up BTW). Nearest dealer is 73 miles, but I do like to keep everything close to factory, at least at the start. I really appreciate your timely help.

on the air cleaner end, there should be a full metal jacket type element/filter/arrester that is wire mesh filled; kind of filter I suppose.
this element slips entirely into the air cleaner end of the hose only after the grommet/hose has been installed on the air cleaner housing; this filter expands the hose and makes the grommet fit snugly into the housing; without this element, it probably won't stay in place.
You may already be aware of this, just a FYI

I had forgotten to check on this filter, but did just now and it was in fact in place. Crown does not show this filter as available, so I'll just clean up the one that's in there. If memory serves, on the previously owned Commando this filter had been replaced with a piece of screen and a copper pot scrubber, which did a passable job of keeping crud from being sucked into the engine. Thanks for the reminder.

Speaking of which, I have tried to remove this hose/filter to clean it, without sucess. Any tips on removing it from the air cleaner housing without damaging the hose, filter or housing?

original cj5, I just now removed the filter from the hose (while the hose was still mounted to the cleaner) by squeezing the hose at the outboard end of the filter just like it was a tube of toothpaste. Mine was greasy enough to let go easily. If necessary, try using penetrating oil or parts cleaner and/or soap on and inside the hose to break up any rust or other crud that may be either making the filter stick to hose or making the hose want to stick to the valve cover or cleaner housing. Good luck.

And, on another note: the molded hoses I asked Rusty's Offroad (the closest Crown dealer) yesterday to have drop-shipped to my house were waiting for me on the front porch this afternoon when I came home. Don't know how they could do any better!

Thank you, jpflat2a. The search function here really helps. Was able to find the part pretty easily with the part number... Do you happen to know the the number for the manifold vacuum hose on the other end of the pcv system? or would a regular vacuum hose just do the trick? trying to keep it as close to stock as possible.

    thanks

I believe other hoses are not special molded hoses, but bulk vac hose that can be purchased locally at parts stores. Diameter and length would have to be measured for your needs.

Here's my contribution to this resurected thread. A reference pic of my setup.

New molded hose, with a metal mesh 1" round filter from the autozone PVC and breather area.
NAPA all steel original style PVC valve.
Bulk emissions rubber hose (5/16 ID IIRC)

IHC # 400852C1 was a molded rubber 5/16 hose that had a 90* bend at the PCV end.
Maybe finding another with a 90* bend would clean that up a little.
