If you are going to run 33 or bigger then run 5:38 gears--

    I have a simular situation.
I got an old CJ6 with 4:27s, but got a Dana 30 from a Jeeper going to a 44 front. I got this cheap and it has a locker with a new set of 5:38s. So I will switch my rear 44 to 5:38 gears. But only because I lifed the CJ6 4 inches to run 33-35s. 2'1/2 body and 2 inch body lift.

    BTW--
I did extra lift because I like to run chains on all fours, with lockers on all fours in grill deep spring snow with muddy ground underneath. I do not like the chains beating on the fender wells- so extra body lift was the way to go.

Lifting the Body also lets you run somewhat softer springs, because usually more spring lift means a stiffer ride. Moderation is key-- I would not lift he body if I only wanted a couple of inches-- but I needed as much as five inches total lift-- when chains rub or hammer the body, damage happens--

Generally the less lift the better-- esp in a narrow track Jeep--
The key is what are you going to do with the Jeep.
