I just got a 72 CJ5 with the 304 V8 and 3 speed tranny. I have NO exhaust. I need from the manifolds back. I stopped at the local Advance Auto and they do not have a Y pipe list, but they do have a Y pipe for the 75 CJ7 with 304 V8 and 3 speed tranny. Will the 75 CJ7 Y-pipe work, or do I need to get one made or does anybody know of any source for these y-pipes? I am going with an aftermarket cheap muffler and they do have a tailpipe listed for like $36.00. Any advice would be appreciated. THANKS!

There's no '75 CJ-7. The first year was 1976. If it's a Y pipe for a '75, it should fit anything 72-75, since the frame, crossmember, drivetrain location is all the same. All I can think of that could be different is the location of the hanger brackets on the frame, possibly.

If it's for a '76, it might fit but I don't think there's any way to tell without trying it. The '76-on frame and crossmember are different from 72-75. Layout is pretty much the same though, so it might fit with a little adjustment. The only difference in a CJ-5 and CJ-7 is the wheelbase, so they probably sell the same part for both and require you to cut the pipe shorter for a CJ-5 app.
