I own a Koenig 550 hard top. It is free of cancerous rust and I'm getting it ready for use.

Does anyone here know much about the door latch. Doed it come apart? It doesn't seem to be welded anywhere, but, I can't afford to pry on it and be wrong.

The door handle is probably bolted on, and the square part of the handle assembly slides through the latch assembly. If that's what you're asking about you might need to use some sort of penetrating lube on it and persuade it with a hammer.

Thank you for your reply. The door is completly disassembled and the door latch assembly is here in my hand.

It is a rectangle, one side is flat with a curved lip to help locate it on the door panel. It is marked "A.L. Hansen MFG CO. CHICAGO U.S.A." The other half is sheet metal folded to make the box that holds the guts. It works as does the lock (a silmple lever mounted with a brass rivet), but, I'd like to detail disassemble it to remove decades of dust dirt and rust.

A wise man would have posted pictures in the first place. I shall endevor to do so tomorrow.

I finally noticed two very small divots on the top plate that indicate it is indeed spot welded.

Since it's simply dirty inside I'll soak them in oil for a couple of weeks and then flush em out with brake cleaner.

I'll cross the disassembly bridge when something actually breaks and latch becomes unusable.
