I am so frustrated! I'm in the middle of my frame-up resto on my 79 CJ-5 and just got the tach and clock I ordered from an online parts supplier. Very misleading since the tach is obviously not the same one they show in the picture. When looking at pictures of original tachs on e-bay, they have a thin orange needle and thick-font numbers surrounded by a double white-line circle around the face of the tach. This replacement has a very cheap fat red needle, thin little numbers and the face is mounted slightly off-center within the housing. The clock is also nowhere near what an original looks like. Every parts supplier I've looked at sells these same cheap copies. Does anyone make exact replicas or stock NOS guages? I want to bring my Jeep as close to factory original as possible and these after-market guages are very cheaply-made. PLEASE HELP! Thanks.

Here are some pictures of a factory tach and clock and I can't find these new anywhere. I think I'll have to buy used from e-bay. Unless anyone knows where I can get originals like this...

I have the knockoff in my CJ7. It works.... since I have the Mopar fuel injection, I needed a tach set to "4 cyl" and the knockoff lets me do that...the thing I really dislike about it is there is no way to replace the light bulb inside it.... if it ever goes out, guess you gotta replace the whole thing...that's just wrong.

Maybe you know this and maybe not, the factory tach is held in with a plastic cup thing that screws in from the back...if you don't have it might want to make sure the new (NOS) tach comes with it. Also the wires to run it are made into it, but the harness to power the light inside is a different harness, and this harness also runs the clock and the light inside the clock. I'm guessing you already have that, but just a heads up if you don't.
