brake upgrade

    Could somebody post a parts list to conver the front brakes to 11inch drums and or disk brakes. I know its been posted before but I am feeling lazy.

    Thanks Jayhawk my 9 inchers actually work pretty well now with 31s but when next summer rolls around I want to go up to 33s or 34s.
    Could anyone tell me if it would be easier/cheaper to just regear a d30 or d44. I know that I could pic up a D30 for like 100 bucks and with only 34s and an f head it would hold up fine I think.

    The cost really depends on your parts scrounging abilities and whether you'd do the regearing yourself.


    A couple more things to consider- with a D30 swap, you'll gain an axle for which parts are probably more available and your Jeeps turning radius will improve as well.

    I put one in mine only after putting new kingpin bearings and converting my D25 to discs. I think I like doing the same work over and over again.

    My parts scrounging abilitys are decent I know d30s are all over the place but I am not sure about regearing it myself. It can't be that hard right? Maybe when schools over I will give it a try.

    I've never done it, but my pro mechanic friend at the Jeep dealer said that it's the most advanced task of any on an automobile. You need special tools and technique - are you willing to buy the tools and to spend a lot of time getting it right? You could start by reading the chapter in the FSM.

    Probably a mistake for someone too lazy to search for background info.

    I did my 11" brakes cheap. On the rear I got 1970 Bronco 11 inch brakes-- cuz the backing plates bolt right up. They are off the dana 30 Bronco front end.
    Got them for $30 bucks. Next I got a Dana 30 off of a 1972 CJ that had
    11 inch stock brakes. I paid 100 bucks for the whole dana 30--and it had a locker inside too.

    So I spent low bucks for the upgrade.

    If you hunt the junk yards-- you can do it cheap-
