My t-case moves up and down. It's got the little bend over to get into neutral and down to 4LO, but basically up and down. I might take you up on the tranny and t-case, but first I have to figure out if I even have a 304.

I couldn't find a mark around the engine blocks, but I never realized how bad of a job the engine is mounted. It's really kinda scary to be honest. I've been afraid to open this can of worms for awhile, but oh well looks like I'm getting deep in now.

The only markings I could find are on top:

Before you dive into a t-case rebuild you first might want to rebuild the transfer case shifter, becouse if it gets real sloppy you can 2low without knowing it. I belive the engine displacement is cast into the block near the motor mount.

yeah, look for the numbers in the SIDE of the block. Those numbers on the manifold don't tell you anything. The displacement is cast in BIG letters on the driver's side block by or beneath the motormount.

Look at those casting numbers in the transmission too.

Keep looking till you find them. Use a flashlight and inspection mirror if needed.

This is the best shot of the tranny numbers I could get. I can barely read them myself. Still no luck on the engine. I degreased some yesterday evening so hopefully I can get back out there this afternoon and check again.[IMG]

I found it! It is a 304. Now I just have to figure out those transmission numbers and I'm good to go.
