dropped off the frame today....

Blast Tech in Englewood did the blasting, they specialize in vintage car and bike stuff, so they know what they're doing with sheet metal. Place is always fulla car bodies & parts of all kinds.

Taint Paint in The Springs did the coating. They come up this way every Thursday and visit Blast Tech and several other places, I guess. They drop off stuff to blast and pick up stuff to be coated, then bring everything back the next Thursday and get another load, etc.

I haven't got the frame yet, didn't have the pickup today, but I took some photos and grabbed the bumper & crossmember. Already paid the bill, I'll just get the frame on the way to work Tuesday. I hope this powdercoating stuff is as tough as everyone says it is!

oh man, you know i really hate you for this cause i was gonna try and wait awhile before i tore down the 71 i just got, but after seeing how good that looks i think i made up my mind......what a nice looking frame!!!

 

Thanks guys! I'll put up some more in a week or so, after I get the frame home and get the bumper & crossmember bolted back on. It really does look great, even though it's dirty 'cause it got rained on. He's got it inside the shop now for the weekend.

Now, if I can keep the momentum going on this kind of quality, I should have a dang nice stocker when I'm done! Springs and axles are next up.

Your frame looks great! I recently had my 65 cj5 frame blasted and powder coated too. For anyone considering – here’s a few notes on my experience. I had the frame, cross members, and some misc pieces (motor mounts, etc.) all blasted for $100. The sand blaster is right across the street from the powder coater – so the frame and bits went into coating the same day they were blasted (minimizes any chance of any corrosion/oxidation starting up). The Powder coater and I agreed to a job that included a thick prime and final coat – I’m very happy with the way it turned out – but it cost a bit more. I used a color called micro black (it’s low gloss). That was $300 for the frame and all extra pieces. I called around and found places that were cheaper – but often I was giving up on service, quality, or something else. I decided to pay a bit more to get exactly what I wanted.

I debated about the do it myself job. But I’m glad I forked over the $400 to get all these parts done right. This was the 2nd time I’ve had the jeep done to the frame in the past 20 years. Last time I opted to keep the factory finish – this time I didn’t. Now that the frame is so nice… I have a new issue. Because the frame looks so good, when I started to put everything back together, anything that didn’t look equally as nice just couldn’t go back on. So now I find myself replacing even slightly dull/oxidized bolts with new ones (or giving the old ones a workout in my bench top blasting cabinet) – not too mention making the entire drive line look new again. The body isn’t back on yet, I’m scared what that might drive me to do….

 

Dang Pretty. Makes me want to pull my frame down to nothing and get it done while I got a rolling Chasis. Oh, Honey..... abouth the Jeep...

 

It's threads like this that cost me a lot of money. Keep up the good work! That JEEP is going to look SWEEEET!

 

Got the frame home, and put the bumper and crossmember on tonight. I'm gonna take some more photos and post them, but I need to clear some crap outta the way first so I can get some good ones. If I can get a neighbor to help, I'll try to get it out into the driveway and into the sun. I'm also thinking of using my 35mm camera to get better photos, and have them put onto a CD when I get the film processed. My digital is a p.o.s.

This is the look I'm going for, except I think this is a '66, and I'm going with 16" NDT tires.

 

Looks like a plan to me! That was my original thought, too. But I've decided not to have a completely original stocker - I'm doing some safety-oriented mods such as 11" brakes, a roll bar (I'm gonna try to get a stock bar, but they weren't an option on my '66 so it's not really "original") and an intermediate W/S frame for visibility, plus a wheelhouse notch for comfort...

 

Well, yeah, I'm doing some mods too, like 11" brakes, Pertronix, 12 volt, dual chamber m/c, wheelhouse notch, V6 Ross box, maybe the 1-piece tie rod thing, maybe a Solex too if the stock carb gives me grief. I'm just going for the stock outward appearance. You know, no lift, no monster tires, etc.
