Trying to mount a oil bath air filter for a 59 cj5 restoration project. The filter and horn are original and the tub is a replitub. The firewall of the replitub should have the exact contours of the the original tubs since I'm told they are produced with the original stamps from Willys? Engine is a F-134 with original carter carburator

Does the filter mount flush to the firewall or is there a bracket or block that is used also?

Intuitively, the filter would mount in a small concave contour just below the passenger side radiator strut, however, if I mount it there the angle of the horn to the carburator is so steep I cannot connect the rubber hose. A small block in between the filter and the firewall would solve the problem easily enough but I was curious how it mounted right off the production line?

Any pics or words of wisdom are appreciated. Pete

Here's the only photo I have of my '56 air cleaner. Sorry it's sideways, I'm too lazy today to fix it first.

Thanks for the help guys. I ended up fabricating a bracket so it will fit much better now. I could see by all the pics you sent that originally no bracket was used. I could be wrong but I don't think that the firewall (and other areas) on the replitub is true to early cj5's like I was told. I think the concavity just behind the engine is deeper on the replitubs. Probably a generic firewall for all the cj5's so folks with the later 6 cylinders can make due with it too. In retrospect I should have hunted around harder for a original tub in fair shape rather than buying the replitub. Live and learn I guess.

    Thanks again, Pete
