I can't seem to find any timing marks on my F-134. It's in a 1953 M38A1. Can anyone give me a detailed description of where to look. I guess they may be hidden under old paint or grease but the engine doesn't look that bad. Any help would be appreciated!

Also, where should timing be set?

Clean the area on the cover real good. I used an old tooth brush. Swore up and down it wasn't there until I did this. Then took some white paint so it would show up better when I timed it.

Here are three pics. Forget the date I keep forgetting to reset it it! Anyway, I have the front end apart so I figured it would be good timing (no pun intended) to snap 'em. They will be from far out to close up. I used white out to highlight them better. There is a line for top dead center (TDC) and one to the left (as viewed) for 5 degrees BTDC. I also used white out on the notch on the pulley. Should be at 5 degrees BTC.

I've read about early CJ's with the timing marks on the flywheel, and you have to view them through a little access hole near the starter. It was an article about making a pointer to put on your cover to solve this problem.

What vintage Jeeps are like that? Really early, like L-heads or WWII?

Thanks everyone for your help. It seems strange to me that my M38A1 has the timing marks in such a hidden area. With the radiator and radiator shroud on, it's damned near impossible to see that area! I'll look closer tomorrow and report back! Thanks again!
