I just put on a set of revolver shackles and when I let the front end down the driver side shackle hit my saginaw box bracket. It looks like I need to move it toward the passangers side about an inch. Will this effect my steering at all? I was going to make a new backet to move it over and probably need to adjust the tie rods. Has anyone done this or have any pics? I was going to use a C-channel to space it off the frame and then gusset the bottom that hang lower than the frame.

Are you talking about moving the steering box over? If so, I don't see any problem with that. You'll probably have to shorten the drag link. Make sure you check for clearance on the steering shaft as it runs through the engine compartment. Specifically at the engine mount area and exhaust manifold.

Not sure I lik ethe idea of moving the steering box away from the frame. The further the box is mounted away from the frame, the more leverage the steering system is going to have against the frame, and the frame horns aren't all that strong to begin with.

Let me ask you this: I don't know much about the revolver-type shackles, but could you just turn the 180* so the "knee" of the unit points forward instead?

nope, the torque applied to the axle with transfer to the springs and then to the shackles, opening them up on forward movement (in four wheel drive). kinda causing ultimate axle wrap. in two wheel drive i think it would be spooky steering affect with them back wards.

Well I got it all back together yesterday. Had to move the box over about 1-1/2" to clear the shackles. It seam stronger now than before. I was a little worried about the additional leverage too but I thought the 1/2" winch plate I made with the front bumper that wraps down the sides and bolts to the horn will hold it in place...not to mention the C-channel support under the grill to support the radiator.

As for the revolvers, they definately woke up the suspension. I can't wait to see how they work on the trails.

Ralph, glad you got it worked out. Does your rig still track staight? Did you shorten the drag link?
Let us know how it works on the trails too... with pics of course!

Lynn I took it out last night and it tracked just like before only the steering wheel is turned upside down now. The suspension was like night and day though. It felt soft again...like the origonal spring were back underneith it. I think there is enough room left in the drag link ends to move the pitman arm back to where it was. I hope to hit a local trail some night this week, the one I broke the drive shaft on, and will post up some pics. The front finally has some movement in it and drops about 12" but I need to get longer shocks for the back. I was going to run it without the rear shock to see how long they are going to need to be.
