Well, I finally got the Jeep to pur like a kitten at idle. It was missing very badly and turned out the points were out of adjustment and the timing was way off. But now the Jeep wants to hesitate and stumble at partial throttle or if i get off the gas and back on again. And sometimes it does it from a standstill, too. Where should I begin to troubleshoot? Plugs looked good when we pulled them last weekend. So what do you think it could be? :? Can't wait to get this bad boy running smoothly again. Seems to pull so much better after the last adjustments. It used to fall on its face going uphill in 3rd, but now it keeps pulling with no problems, other than the hesitation now. Grrrr! lol! What should I adjust on it? I thought I had it adjusted properly because it ran fine the day of and the day after the other adjustments I mentioned. It just started doing the stumbling today, so I'm not sure what's up.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I have the f134 with the Carter YF carb.

Ok I see. Yeah I guess I need to pull the plugs and see how they look now. Sunday they were brownish white on the electrode and more black around the threads. The wires 'look' good, but I guess I could change them out to make sure. Would running 89 octane in the Jeep when it's used to 93 make a difference? My dad always ran 93 in it for some reason.

It doesn't need anything more than 87 really.

Many guys have noticed considerable improvements in performance as well as elimination of hesitation/stumbling by installing a Pertronix Ignitor kit, replacing the points. Do a search on this forum, LOTS of info here...

    HTH!

Yeah I have thought about installing a Pertronix, but there are a couple other areas of the Jeep that need my immediate attention...namely the super sloppy steering and my leaky MC! I think I will check the fuel filter and plug gap when I get home to rule out any easy fixes.

What is this 'dwell' you guys speak of? lol! I know, I know, I need to get an FSM. But when I checked the point gap, I just used a feeler gauge. How do I go about checking the dwell?

Not being a smart *** but a dwell meter.

Instructions for use come with 'em. Usually they're a tach/volt/dwell meter combo.

LOL! Thanks sparky. Yeah I was asking some of the guys here in the motorpool about it and they said to bring it in and they would check it out for me.
