I got my dana 30 in and of course when I went to bolt up the driveshaft theres a teeny tiny u-joint and a much bigger yoke. Are you guys using a conversion joint, different yoke, modified drive shaft? Whats up!

When the 27 was used with a V6, they went to an odd small ujoint setup. Best thing to do is get a new driveshaft, or see if the dana 27 yoke will fit on the 30. I believe the later 27 had fine splines and may be the same as the dana 30, see if you can count the splines. There are no adapter ujoints avaiable.

The dana 27 yoke will not fit on the dana 30. You can install the large 4 cylinder yoke on the transfercase and get a new driveshaft. I used a 77 cj5 front driveshaft and shortened the tube down about 3" or there abouts.

Did one of these last October and I'm going to be doing it to one of mine, when I get that far. If you have an extra transfer case kicking around you can use the rear yoke from that and put it on the front output of the TC that's in there to get the matching yoke for the front diff. We used a front driveshaft out of a 72/73 with an auto trans. We ground off the weld on the rear of the shaft to get the yoke off, shortened the shaft then welded it back on. You might be able to get away with a front driveshaft from a 72/73 with standard tranny, I haven't looked into that option yet and it's one I was considering. I have a 72 with a standard sitting in the shop right now. I could measure that tomorrow to see if it would work. Other than that you'll need to get a driveshat made as suggested.

I'll prolly take it off and lengthen the J series CV shaft i have here and switch the yokes at the output, either way it will be pulled and not a non-driving issue, thanks for the help.

The front yoke from a Model 20 T-case will fit on a Model 18 and match up to the D30 yoke. You'll still need to redo the driveshaft though.

Did a D30 swap and V8 swap. Had hoped to build a double cardan, but there is no way the joint is going to fit. In fact, I think I need to keep the V6 joint and thin driveshaft up at the D18 end in order to keep from grinding during axle articulation. Thinking about getting a 1310 slip yoke and make a driveshaft with 1310 on one end and small V6 on the other. I have a spare V6 shaft that could be a donor. Is this a good plan?

Thought somebody would have weighed in on this by now :). Been trying but I can't think of any big problems other than maybe binding on the small joint end?

J trucks used 5 different yokes depending on the application, one is the same as what CJ used and another is the same as 72/73 Commando used. The difference between the CJ and the Commando is the overall length of the yoke and the difference between the bolt holes.
