I have a 1974 cj5 that I've been rebuilding and I ran into a little problem. The steering column is shot. I have a spare one from my 75. I'm planning to rebuild the spare and then switch them. The question is, does anyone know where I can get an updated upper column brg. to replace the individual balls? Or do I have to use them? Also where to get the lower column bushing? Any help would be great.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

The Jeep p/n for the upper is 801422
I've seen these on ebay or any of the normal Jeep parts suppliers.
    the lower is dicontinued
usually have to have something fabbed up or ???
it was just a nylon block if I recall

Try Advance Adapters for the bearings/ bushings

Ok. I tried that number and they say it will only fit a 49-71 cj. Mine is a 75. Any other ideas?

that is the part number for the upper column bearing
75 and prior all the same
sounds like they don't have a later book
then again, what do they say it should be ?

I ran across the lower bearing on one of the Jeep restoration sites, unfortunately I can't remember which one (www.theusedjeep.com perhaps???) It was relatively low cost, too.

It was 4 wheeldrive hardware and they said I was sol. Unless I went with a new column. I find it hard to believe that no one has ever changed out this brg.
