    Hey guys....

I am trying to get my sm420 covered up permanently and need about a half inch more clearance to make it work. I have been reading old threads for about an hour (back to '04) and have not been able to find what I am looking for.

So, does anyone know where I can find either a set of 13 1" poly pucks or can they be bought individually? Googling has not produced any answers so far. I am about ready to just order another set of the energy suspension replacement pucks and stack them but I would rather not do that. If I recall correctly these pucks are 9/16"?

I have already lowered the crossmember 1" and I am not going any lower. Would it be better to notch the crossmember 1/2"?

    Thanks!

    Chris

You can make your own custom lift from aluminum bar stock- that is what I did for my TJ when my commercial B/L didn't arrive in time for a trip. You can then make the lift whatever hieght you want (1", 1.25", etc)

I don't recall the specific thickness, but the urethane pucks I bought from my local Jeep parts ma & pa shop were maybe 1", possibly only 3/4". Try your local 4x4 places, maybe they can help.

FWIW, I don't want to step on toes, but using aluminum for the pucks doesn't sound right. My thinking is the urethane allows for some flex, and the aluminum won't. But I could be talking out of my butt too, YMMV.

I dunno, there are commercial b/l pucks out there that are aluminum. ;)

You keep your stock body mount bushings for flex, so why would you want the B/L to flex as well?

See, I told you I may have been talking out my butt! ;)

I didn't take into account leaving the original bushings in there.....

    Sorry.

Didn't say I liked them. I just have them on there. ;)

I plan to replace with poly and shorten it a bit when I do.

    Thanks guys.
I really don't want aluminum pucks beating up the mounts more then they already are, and I don't like the idea of having 2 seperate pucks that could shift around under stress.
My first thought has always been to build a raised cover but looking at the pass side with the od shifter and twin sticks I would need to extend the box out an inch or so in order to make room for some boots. I just think that it would look pretty bad that way (my fab skills aren't the best).
So I guess I am looking at cutting my own pucks... whats the easiest way to do this?

    Thanks, Chris

Chris - band saw to cut them. Where are you going to get the urethane to cut them? My source dried up and am looking at body lift kits from Summit to do the same thing. Starting on the Blue '49 and looking to put a 2" body lift on it like on the Red '51.

Doesn't one or more of the parts suppliers sell a "salami" that you cut your own pucks out of? Cut 'em whatever thickness you want? Seems like I read that here.

    Well, I don't know yet :)
I am still deciding if I want to do the BL for sure. I will post anything I find here though. How much is the poly from Summit?

I've seen people use boat trailer rollers and cut them down.

I've had a hockey puck body lift for 3+ years and have had no problems whatsoever ;)

never liked body lifts, but understand that sometimes you might need to use one. I've used boat rollers before and the work well and have lasted.

Same here on a buddy of mine's EB. It's been rolled a few times and pretty much beaten to death and the pucks are still holding up. We have also used them on custom motor mounts, trans mounts, and all kinds of other stuff. They make pretty good coasters for your  too.:)

My body has mounts made from the 4wd rubber salami. It's very difficult to cut straight. I'm switching to hockey pucks, since the rubber seems to be have about the same hardness, they're already cut to size and all I need to do is run a drill bit through them. R)
