Uh, can't answer the question but shouldn't that passenger seat bottom be the same thickness as the drivers?

i wouldint think so because of the toolbox and how it sits higher than the driver side

Tough to tell from the angle, but here's the original seat that came with SSDutch. It's lower bolster was roughly the same thickness as the driver's side.

Wait...I got confused. In your pic It's the driver's side that is a shorter bolster. I didn't look close enough - assumed they had them positioned in the way they'd go in the Jeep.

Huh - either way the early seats I had were both about the same height on the bottom.

Prices can be all over the board. I personally would shoot for $150, maybe $200, or less for a simple back seat.

I remember a post recently about those seats, and the Ebay ad said the driver's seat has a pan, and the pass. has springs. FWIW, I have two drivers seats and one pass. seat of that same style frame, and they all have springs, no pans. So that drivers seat may either have been modified, or maybe it's a really early version that had pans like the 2A's, 3A's, etc.

We have members here with stock '55's, right? Does anybody have stock '55 seats? Pans or springs? Thick cushion or thin?

Oh, reupholstering...I'm going to get cushion recovering kits from Beachwood Canvas to do my frames. I took 'em to an upholstery shop, and he said that would be the best and cheapest way to do it. I wouldn't have to pay for him to make the covers, yet he could install the kits far quicker and nicer than I ever could, and it wouldn't take weeks like a custom job. I don't remember the prices, call Beachwood and ask for Rich. He told me they have 'em. They're the only place I know of that does.

Duh, you're asking about recovering a rear seat, not the fronts. I think Beachwood has those too.

i just found this pic and it appears that this early cj5 has skinney seats in it.

they look like the same style apholstering as the ones i have

if not i still love these seats, super comfy and plush, and the skinney driver seat gives me an extra few inches of room

I've had that photo for a long time, and I never noticed that! I think you may be right. Have you received the seats yet? Can you post some photos of the bottom of that drivers seat?

Does anybody else here have any of those type seats for sale? We have a member here from Australia (Johno) that really wants a set.

the driver seat is not a 2a seat, there is no way it would fit. what other seats are interchangable with the cj5? cj3b?

Most curious! Now I have to check. My passenger seat covering was original, but the driver's seat has been recovered. I hope it is not supposed to be skinny! Have to check for a pan too!

FWIW the '55 owners manual I have definately shows the "thick" seats-

    The '55 advertising sez "springs"-

Nor does the FSM make any mention of a pan style seat

I can't see in the pics ******* posted, does it say "JEEP" or "WILLYS" on the side like the cover of my owners manual??

That may be a pic of the prototype, I notice it doesn't seem to have a glove box door. My guess is someone modded the drives seat to give a little more clearance between thier 6-pack ^H^H^H^H^H beer keg & the sterring wheel R)

    H.

p.s.- was that enough pictures?? If not I have more-
